Whether its rednecks or mystics, Aztec Gods or Spanish whores, Gun toting preachers or bible wielding outlaws, sinners or saints, college kids or snake handlers, cursed tattoos or blessed guitars, They all have found a home in Ray’s music. And not just as filler or cool sounding rhymes. But as living breathing characters filled with there own complexities and histories. The ease of Ray’s grooves and lyrics sometimes cover up the intricacies of his writing. At first listen a song like “Bones” could be considered just a cool gambling tune to a swampy beat. Only those with knowledge of backroom dice games would catch that each lyric is a name for a dice roll.
